BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital, has suddenly contracted fever, said party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He made the remarks at a press conference on Friday (May 26) at noon.
Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia has been suffering from fever since last night and has been receiving treatment ever since. The examination is going on, the medical board will sit today.
However, Khaleda Zia is doing fairly well, said the BNP secretary general.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia was infected with coronavirus on April 10. On April 26, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital. He was later transferred to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the same hospital due to respiratory problems. On May 9, Khaleda Zia’s coronavirus test showed negative results, but she is undergoing treatment at the hospital on the advice of doctors.
It may be mentioned that in 2008 a case was filed against the BNP chairperson for embezzling money from the Zia Charitable Trust. In 2016, the court sentenced him to 10 years in prison. In another case, Khaleda was sentenced to seven years in prison.
When the coronavirus infection started in the country, the government granted him temporary release on condition of humanitarian consideration on March 25 last year at the request of his family.
